Culture & Art

If your passion is art, be sure to explore Royal Oak's collection of public art. Art Explored is an innovative program that brings the works of Michigan artists to downtown Royal Oak.  Art Explored adds to the vibrancy of Royal Oak's central business district while giving artists a showcase for big, imaginative ideas.

Cultural Events

The Royal Oak Public Library, Royal Oak Commission for the Arts, Royal Oak Arts Council and Greater Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce offer a number of events to promote art appreciation. Exhibits include the 11 Mile Art Project, Royal Oak Clay, Glass & Metal, Arts, Beats & Eats, the Royal Oak Outdoor Art Fair at Memorial Park and summer concerts at the library and on Center Street.

Royal Oak caters to theatergoers of both film and live productions. Film lovers can view films at the Emagine Royal Oak. Patrons of live theater enjoy performances by Stagecrafters at the Baldwin Theater. Stagecrafters is a community theater group that produces 10 stage shows each year and shows silent films. Originally founded in Clawson in 1956, Stagecrafters moved to Royal Oak in 1985 when it purchased and restored the historic Baldwin Theatre, built in 1932.

The Royal Oak Symphony Orchestra performs classical and pop concerts throughout the year for the listening pleasure of the community. The orchestra is comprised of musicians from Royal Oak and surrounding communities who have previously studied or performed concert music. Orchestra members work in a variety of professions.
