Animal Shelter Committee
The purpose of the Animal Shelter Committee is to advise and assist the City, City Commission, the City administration and staff concerning all issues involving the Royal Oak Animal Shelter.

Audit Review Committee
The purpose of the Audit Review Committee is to review the annual City audit.

Board of Review
The Board of Review's purpose is to hear and decide assessment appeals, poverty exemptions, or property classification appeals.

Brownfield Redevelopment Authority Board
This Board was established by City Commission resolution on May 21, 2001 to supervise and control the City of Royal Oak Brownfield Redevelopment Authority.

Building Authority
The purpose of the City's Articles of Incorporation is to acquire, furnish, equip, own, improve, enlarge, operate, and maintain building, automobile parking lots or structures, and recreational facilities. The Building Authority would generally lease back any of its improvements to the City.

Charter Review Committee
The Charter Review Committee was established to analyze the Charter and develop a list of recommended changes in order of priority for consideration of the City Commission.

Civil Service Board
The City Charter provides for a Civil Service Board to enforce and administer the City's Merit System. The Merit System governs those promotion, discipline and discharge procedures, which are not regulated by union contracts.

Crime Prevention Council
The Citizens Crime Prevention Council advises the City Commission and the Police Department about the needs and concerns related to Crime Prevention.

Downtown Development Authority
The Downtown Development Authority was formed to promote economic growth in Royal Oak's Central Business District.

Environmental Advisory Board
The purpose of the Environmental Advisory Board shall be to advise and assist the environmental sustainability efforts of all city staff, boards, and commissions, and community members. The Environmental Advisory Board shall make recommendations to the city commission on all issues concerning city environmental sustainability efforts defined as, any policies, programs, projects, initiatives, or events related to the energy waste reduction, climate, air quality, water, waste, resilience, and/or other sustainability issues that improve quality of life and protect the environment.

Fire Department Civil Service Commission
The Civil Service Commission administers the Fire Department Merit System. The Commission governs recruitment and promotional procedures and acts as a reviewing body for those discipline and discharge procedures not regulated by labor contracts.

Historic District Commission
The duty of the Commission is to review all plans for the construction, addition, alteration, repair, moving, excavation, or demolition of resources in a historic district.

Historic District Study Committee
The Historic District Study Committee researches proposed historic districts for the purpose historic preservation in the City.

Human Rights Commission
The purpose of the Human Rights Commission is to advise the city commission and the city manager and assist with efforts to bring greater equity and inclusion of diverse groups within the City of Royal Oak.

Library Board
The Library Board is an administrative and policy setting body which is responsible for the selection of the Library Director and for the general administration of the Library.

Naming Committee
The Naming Committee functions in an advisory capacity to the City Commission on all matters concerning the naming of public properties within the City.

Park & Recreation Advisory Board
This Board advises the Commission on policies affecting the operation of the Recreation and Parks and Forestry services, and advises the Commission, City Manager and Director of Recreation and Public Works on all other matters pertaining to Recreation programming and Parks and Forestry services.

Rehabilitation Board of Appeals
The Rehabilitation Board of Appeals is comprised of seven citizen members, empowered to grant or deny appeals from the eligibility requirements of the Housing Assistance Program or actions of the Administration of the Rehabilitation Board of Review.

Royal Oak Commission for the Arts
The Royal Oak Commission for the Arts was created to encourage and support arts and culture in the City of Royal Oak.

Royal Oak Hospital Finance Authority
The Authority was established by resolution and allows for tax exempt funding for the construction of hospital facilities.

Traffic Committee
The Traffic Committee functions to review proposed traffic regulations and traffic safety issues.

Veterans Events Committee
One of the committee's primary goals is to reach out to veterans of all ages and to those who wish to show their respect to our veterans.

Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA)
The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) has the ability to grant variances or exemptions to the Zoning Ordinance in instances where there is evidence of hardship.

Anyone planning to attend a meeting who has need of special assistance under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is asked to contact the city clerk’s office at 248-246-3050 at least two (2) business days prior to the meeting.
