The Future Begins!

The City of Royal Oak and Royal Oak Police Department are excited to extend an invitation to the public groundbreaking ceremony for the new City Hall and police station. The family-fun event will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 23 at the Royal Oak Farmers Market.

The ceremony will be held in the east parking lot of the market and includes:

* Remarks by Mayor Mike Fournier
* A giant sandbox filled with discoveries (shovels provided!)
* A rock climbing wall
* Arts and crafts
* Cooperative play and games courtesy of Toyology
* Free construction hard hats for kids
* Music by Postman Productions
* Firetrucks and patrol cars 
* "Mugshot" and police lineup selfie station
* Renderings/Plans of the new civic facilities
* Sinfully Sweet Treats food truck

Public interested in attending this event are encouraged to go to www.RethinkRO.com for a parking guide.

This is a rain or shine event. Should the weather not cooperate, activities will take place inside the farmers market.

Where: The public celebration will take place at the Royal Oak Farmers Market East Lot When: August 23 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Cost: Free
Parking: Parking will be available at the south and west Farmers Market lots, as well as in Lot P4 between City Hall and the library. Attendees who arrive before 5 p.m. can park in the city garages for two hours free.

Royal Oak Officer Cleared in May 14 Fatal Shooting

The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office has cleared Officer Ryan Addis of any criminal wrongdoing.  In the prosecutor’s opinion, this shooting was justified and Officer Addis was acting in lawful self-defense.

Officer Ryan Addis was hired by the Royal Oak Police Department in August 2014.  Officer Addis has no history of use-of-force complaints.

“The events that occurred on May 14 can only be described as heartbreaking.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Reynolds family,“ said Chief Corrigan O’Donohue.

Citizens Police Academy

Royal Oak Citizens Police Academy is Now Accepting Applications!

The Royal Oak Citizens Police Academy is an exciting seven-week course that meets once a week on Wednesday evenings at the police station at 6:30 p.m. Classes last for approximately three hours.

The fall session begins Oct. 3, 2018. Open only to residents of Royal Oak, attendees get an insider's look at the internal operations and challenges of the police department. You must be 18 years of age or older to attend the academy. All potential applicants are screened before they are accepted. You will be notified no later than Sept. 30, 2018, if you have been admitted.
